I’m Josie
DOULA & FOUNDER OF SUMLOVE DOULA CARE
I believe every family deserves to feel supported, informed, and cared for as they welcome new life into the world. My role as a Doula is to walk alongside you, offering guidance, reassurance, and advocacy so you never feel alone on this journey.

Sacramento-based, supporting families throughout Sacramento and surrounding areas.

My path to birth work
Growing up, I was exposed to the beautiful world of birth through my mother, who is a childbirth educator and birth doula. My mom would often host childbirth classes at our home, and she would use my dolls for demonstrations. Being exposed to the beauty of pregnancy and birth has been a blessing.
At the age of 7, I witnessed the birth of my sister in my mom's childhood bedroom. I connected to the midwives, and as I got older, I realised that what I was called to do has always been a part of my life. I have always had a deep love for women, babies, and birth. As I watched my mom over the years and grew my own passion, I finally decided to follow where my heart was taking me. I aspire to become a midwife, and while in school, support families as a doula.

Training & Experience
I was trained at Sierra Doula Academy in Sacramento. I gained the skills and knowledge to lovingly support and hold space for mothers and families through each unique stage—from prenatal care and labor to postpartum healing and adjustment. Being there for families during these sacred and transformative moments is truly an honor.
A little about me.

Hi! I'm a Sacramento native. Raised alongside my older brother and, later on, my younger sister. I was lucky enough to be homeschooled, which gave me the freedom to explore my interests and learn in creative, out-of-the-box ways, and think beyond the traditional classroom.

From a young age, I’ve felt a deep connection to nature. Inspired by my great-abuelita, I love taking herbal classes and making natural remedies from the plants around me. Gardening is one of my favorite ways to reconnect—there’s something sacred about putting my hands in the soil and feeling grounded.

I love the magic of each season, but I’m a true fall girl at heart— cozy sweaters, spicy chai or herbal tea, and I’m in my element. When I’m not working with families, you can find me crafting, listening to country music, or searching for vintage treasures—especially art and images of Mother Mary, whose gentle, loving spirit and strength continue to inspire my work and daily life.
